In fact, nutrition is at the base of our "foundation of fundamentals;" playing an integral role in all facets of our student-athletes' development. 

Glen Tobias, one of the leading sports nutritionists and dieticians in the country, is our director of nutritional services.  Glen works with people from all walks of life from NFL superstars, elite college and high school athletes and UFC professional fighters, to child diabetics.  The Connecticut Speed School has always offered nutrition coaching but admittedly, to varying degrees of effectiveness. 

Enter MealLogger!!  Connecticut Speed School partnered up with MealLogger in 2012 to deliver what we believe to be the most effective nutrition coaching program available!  MealLogger was the missing link that now easily connects our athletes to our nutrition coaches via an interactive, affordable and fun software application.

    Tom Pitney joined the Connecticut Speed School staff in the summer of 2012.  In just a short time in the sports performance industry, Coach Pitney is distinguishing himself as a sought-after professional that gets results for his athletes.  Coach Pitney graduated in 2012 from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in exercise science and completed an intensive internship with Yale University's Intercollegiate Athletics Strength & Conditioning staff, consisting of 35 varsity sports and over 800 athletes. Coach Pitney graduated from Ansonia High School where he was a two sport standout on the baseball and state championship football teams.

    Chris Fee

    Coach Fee is the Director of Strength & Conditioning at Sacred Heart University, leading a staff that overseas 31 Division I varsity teams. Bobby Valentine, SHU Athletics Director said of Fee, "His expertise, experience and knowledge shown through during the interview process and I believe our student-athletes will see an immediate benefit.”  Prior to Sacred Heart, Coach Fee spent one year at Morehouse State and three years at Yale University. It is at Yale in 2010 where Coach Fee met and worked with Speed School co-founder, John Coughlin. Coach Fee initially joined the Speed School staff as a performance coach and as a wrestling coach back in 2010 so Speed School is thrilled to welcome Coach Fee back!   Coach Fee was a member of the football team at Springfield College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Exercise Science in May 2008.  He helped lead the Pride to the 2006 Empire 8 Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.  Fee earned a Master of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sport Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University in May 2013.

    Tom Sheehan - Consultant

    Coach Sheehan, Director of Strength & Conditioning at Columbia University is nationally recognized for his expertise in strength & conditioning as well as in the efficient movement patterns of athletes. Coach Sheehan trains professional and collegiate athletes and teams (most recently the Cleveland Indians & San Diego Padres) throughout the country in developing efficient athletic movement. The essence of sport comes down to movement and Coach Sheehan's movement training curriculum (MTS) gives our athletes the necessary foundation needed to reach their full athletic potential. Coach Sheehan explains, "Initially, strength, reaction and timing are emphasized in the feet. The body is then trained to respond in synchronized motion. The student-athletes gain balance, explosiveness, quickness and efficiency in the execution of sport-specific drills. Balance is the key component to improving performance. We implement a system that has researched human movement and athletic performance for the last 15 years by specialists located in Denver, Colorado. This system develops the movement patterns to create an on-balanced condition every player must have in order to reach his potential." Coach Sheehan is in his second decade at Columbia, his 16th year as Director of Strength and Conditioning. In that position, he supervises a staff in all aspects of strength and conditioning for Columbia University’s 29 intercollegiate teams. Tom graduated from the University of Rochester where he is one of the finest offensive players in the University of Rochester’s gridiron history. An All-American as a junior and senior, he twice earned All-ECAC and all-conference honors. He ranks among the Yellowjackets’ all-time leaders in every receiving category, and topped the list at the completion of his playing career in receiving yardage for a game (189), season (835), and career (1,982). In 2005, he was inducted into Rochester’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

    Coach Strah is an assistant strength & conditioning coach at Sacred Heart University, where he works directly with Division 1 varsity student-athletes, including the men's and women's ice hockey teams.  Prior to SHU, Coach Strah worked as a strength & conditioning intern in the intercollegiate varsity athletics department at the University of Denver. Coach Strah is a graduate of Colorado State University.
